Know Your Treadmill Before You Press Start
A treadmill session begins with understanding the controls. Before thinking about pace or incline, take a minute to learn how the machine starts, slows down and stops.
Find the stop controls
Locate the stop button and understand the safety-stop system before using the belt. Read the instructions on the equipment. If the controls or safety features are unfamiliar, ask a team member to demonstrate them.
Start deliberately
Begin at a manageable setting and give yourself time to settle into the movement. Change one control at a time so you know what is happening. Keep your attention on the equipment when adjusting speed or incline.
Keep the area clear
Keep loose items, towels and cables away from the moving belt. Use designated holders for your belongings. Avoid stepping onto or off a belt that is moving faster than you can safely manage; slow and stop it first.
Finish properly
Bring the session to a controlled stop, remove your belongings and wipe the contact points. Record the settings if you want to repeat the session. Report any unusual movement or control issue to the team before the next member uses it.
